John M. Cieniawski, Jr., 78, of Posen, passed away Feb. 15, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Lillian, nee Tomola; loving father of Joseph (the late Jolene); cherished grandfather of Michael; dearest brother of Theresa (the late Richard) Fortin, Mary Ann (Peter) Greco and the late Donald John Cieniawski; proud uncle of Michele Vangilder, Mark Fortin, Cheryl (Kevin) Prairie, Vicki Jacobsen, Mary Fortin, Corinne (Brad) Wilcock, Kathy (Tony) Volek, Jeffrey (Kathy) Greco, Donald Sarich and Nicole Pearman; fond great uncle 15 and great, great uncle of 7.
John was a devout Catholic and a very active member of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Poland National Alliance and extremely proud of his Polish heritage. John was a graduate of Thornton Township High School and went to work at Wyman and Gordon in the heat treat department before moving on to LARC as a supervisor for children with special needs, a very rewarding career that he enjoyed. He also travelled many destinations throughout the world before settling down with his lovely wife. In his later years, John’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandson including attending his soccer and football games as well as attending Polish festivals.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, February 26th from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Catholic Church, 14414 S. McKinley Ave., Posen. Interment will be held privately at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City on John’s birthday, April 15th.
