Jan Petty Obituary

In loving memory of Jan L. Petty, a cherished soul who entered this world on October 21, 1956, in Holly Grove, AR, and departed peacefully on February 28, 2024, in Palos Heights, IL. Jan, a devoted daughter of God, embraced Christ in her youth and lived her life as a humble servant of God, embodying His love and grace.

Jan's compassionate and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, earning her a special place in the hearts of many. Graduating from Holly Grove High School, she met and married her beloved husband and ventured to Chicago, where she dedicated herself to raising her children with love and care.

For 25 years, Jan served as a valued janitorial worker at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, an institution she held dear to her heart. In her retirement, she continued her service, assisting the elderly as a home care worker, spreading kindness and light wherever she went.

A woman with a big heart and an unwavering positive outlook on life, Jan found joy in the simple pleasures - sharing her favorite blues music with loved ones, shopping for others with unmatched enthusiasm, and attending social gatherings with a smile that lit up the room.

Jan's true pride and joy were her grandchildren, whom she adored and cherished deeply. She played an active role in their lives, celebrating their achievements and treasuring every moment spent together.

Jan's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her children, Linda (Eric) Owens, Tanya Petty, Thomas Petty Jr. and Reginald Petty; her grandchildren, Eric Owens Jr., Damari Owens, Dorion Owens, London Owens, Charles Harris, Patrick Harris, Sean Harris, Sanaa Harris, Lemont Petty, Sania Petty, Malik Petty, Malachai,Petty, Lamanuel Petty, Tamere Petty and Samere Petty; her great grandchild, Damari Owens Jr.; her siblings, Herman Henderson Jr., Carolyn Williams, Ricky Henderson and Gary (Kizzie) Hendrson; her nieces, nephews and extended family, and a community of friends who were blessed to have known her love and kindness.

In the loving arms of Jesus, Jan rejoins her beloved husband, Thomas Petty Sr.; her precious granddaughters, Erika Owens and Reginea Petty; her parents, Herman Henderson Sr. and Myrtle Houston Henderson; her twin, Jerry Henderson and her sister, Sarah Henderson.

The life and legacy of Jan L. Petty will be honored at a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at Oakdale Covenant Church, 9440 S. Vincennes, Chicago, where loved ones will gather to celebrate her remarkable journey and pay tribute to a beautiful soul whose light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she left behind.
