James Joseph O'Brien 67, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away March 31, 2020. A private graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Alsip, IL. A public Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch. Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch is in charge of arrangements.
James was born on August 13, 1952, in Chicago, IL. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1973 and is a Vietnam Veteran. James attended Moraine Community College and earned a degree in Law Enforcement where he served as a police officer for the City of Blue Island from 1975 until 1979. In 1984, Mr. O'Brien once again served his country in the National Guard Reserves until 1992 as a 2nd lieutenant. In 1979, he was employed at BNSF Railway as a Senior Special Agent until his retirement in 2013. James was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch and will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, playing a hand of poker with his railroad buddies and also enjoyed playing pool at the VFW in Southaven, MS.
James is preceded in death by his fathers, Joseph D. O'Brien and John Folz; mother, Florance Burge O'Brien Folz; brothers, Bob O'Brien, Dennis O'Brien, Larry O'Brien, Joseph "Joey" O'Brien, Edward "Eddie" O'Brien and sister, Darlene "DeeDee" O'Brien.
James leaves behind his wife, Sally Cloud O'Brien; two sons, James "Jimmy" O'Brien and James "Jim" Brock; four daughters, Jamie O'Brien Haynes, Shelly (Joey) O'Brien Bailey, Cindi Kessler and Fallon O'Brien; mother, Shirley Folz; sister, Tracey and one brother, Glen Peterson; eight grandchildren, Erica (Tyler) Sanders, Daniel (Bobbi) Harrill, Courtney (Ryan) Meadors, Mathew (Shelby) Harrill, Jacob (Magan) Harrill, Lawton (Seraphine) O'Brien, Melody "Mel-Grace" Barroclough, Jackson O'Brien, one great-grandchild, Tate William Sanders and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and extended family.
