Thomas William Hangos, born on May 18, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2026, in Romeoville, Illinois. He was a beloved member of his family, leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.

Thomas dedicated much of his life to the food service industry, where his passion for cooking shone brightly throughout his career. His journey began after receiving his Bachelor's degree from Chicago State University and graduating from the Culinary Institute of Chicago. He served in various capacities, notably at DHL, and recently at Jewel-Osco, where his warm demeanor and culinary skills made a lasting impression on both colleagues and customers alike.

Outside of work, Thomas embraced a variety of interests that highlighted his zest for life. As a true movie buff, he appreciated the artistry of storytelling through film. He had a special fondness for rock'n roll music, often reminiscing about the times that shaped his love for the genre. Additionally, his enthusiasm for U.S. and world history reflected his inquisitive mind and desire for knowledge. A dedicated reader, Thomas found joy in exploring the pages of countless books, ever eager to learn more about the world around him. His love for cooking was nurtured from childhood, particularly in preparing traditional Greek and Polish cuisines, skills he acquired from his cherished parents.

Thomas is survived by his sister, Phyllis Brown, and his nephews and niece: Richard Erffmeyer, Paul Erffmeyer, Joseph Erffmeyer, and Dawn Andersen. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews whose lives he touched with kindness and affection.

Remembered as a warm-hearted individual who brought laughter and love into every gathering, Thomas will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His memory will be honored during an inurnment service at Assumption Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum in Glenwood, Illinois, on January 16, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM.

He joins his beloved parents, Thomas and Anna Hangos (née Orbeck), his sister Gloria Erffmeyer, and his brother Samuel Hangos in eternal rest. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit and legacy will remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
