IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Bretz

Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen Bernard Bretz, a devoted father, passionate motorcycle enthusiast, and cherished community member, who departed this life on November 13, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on September 17, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Stephen lived a life defined by adventure, camaraderie, and a profound commitment to helping others.

Stephen's career as a dedicated postal worker with the United States Postal Service was just one facet of his remarkable life. Beyond the postal routes, he was an avid traveler and motorcycle rider. His adventurous spirit led him on many long-distance motorcycle trips, including memorable journeys to Sturgis, Florida, Washington D.C., and, most recently, to Dragon's Tail last year. His love for riding was paralleled only by his involvement in community service, as he was an esteemed participant in events such as the Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade and the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run.

A proud member of the Oak Forest Freemason Lodge #832 and a dedicated Shriner, Stephen's commitment to service extended into charitable volunteering every Thanksgiving at Great Lakes Naval Station and during the VFW Christmas Pancake Breakfast in Tinley Park. He had an unparalleled passion for helping children and enjoyed sharing joyful moments over breakfasts with his friends.

Stephen is survived by his beloved son, Philip Bretz, and daughter-in-law, Fay Bretz, who will forever cherish his memory and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and warmth. He also leaves behind his siblings, Larry (Sheila), Julie, Matt (Peggy), Rich (Melinda) and Art (Nadine) Bretz, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Bretz, nee Polizzotto, who was the love of his life throughout their 29 year marriage.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, John Bretz and Adeline Capriani, nee Gornaik.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19th, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Adduci-Zimny Funeral Home, 14522 S. Western Ave. in Posen. The family invites all those whose lives were enriched by Stephen's generosity and spirit to join in honoring his remarkable journey.

As we celebrate the life of Stephen Bernard Bretz, let us remember a man who embraced life with enthusiasm, spread joy within his community, and inspired all who knew him to live fully and give freely. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and served.
