Cynthia Marie Mazies (née Norkus), known to all as Cindy, passed away suddenly at her home in New Lenox, Illinois, on May 14, 2026. Born in Blue Island, Illinois, on October 3, 1955, Cindy will be remembered for her generous heart, love, and warm spirit she shared with all who knew her.
Cynthia grew up in Posen, Illinois, where she attended St. Stanislaus Grammar School and Bremen High School, later earning an associate degree from Thornton Community College. She then spent many years in Richton Park raising her children, before becoming a thirteen-year resident of New Lenox. Throughout her life, Cynthia embraced her community with grace and generosity, and she was widely known as an amazing cake decorator who brought joy to many through her beautiful talents.
In her professional life, Cynthia devoted over a decade as a bookkeeper for Town and Country Landscaping. Beyond her career, she was a woman of many cherished passions who brought a special kind of warmth to everything she touched. She found great joy in creating magic for her family during Halloween and Christmas, and she possessed a lifelong adoration for teddy bears. Cynthia also deeply appreciated the cozy beauty of the fall and winter seasons, which perfectly reflected her naturally warm and gentle spirit.
Cynthia is survived by her husband, James Mazies. She is also survived by her children: Brad Mazies, alongside his partner, Carmen; Scott Mazies; and Brandi Garcia (née Mazies), alongside her husband, David. She is lovingly remembered as “Grammie” by her grandchildren, Charlee and Chelsea Mazies, and Cecilia and Elaina Garcia. She is further survived by her brother, Wayne Norkus and his wife, Cindy. Cynthia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bruno Norkus and Albina Norkus (née Labus).
Cynthia will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and neighbors. Her kindness, her unique talents, and the love she shared with those around her created a legacy of warmth that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
To honor Cynthia’s life, a visitation will be held from 2p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Adduci-Zimny Funeral Home, located at 14522 South Western Avenue, Posen, Illinois 60469. A special vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Reflecting Cynthia's warm and easygoing nature, the family requests that you leave the formal wear at home. Please join us in your favorite jeans and a nice shirt or casual dress as we gather to share stories, listen to her favorite music, and celebrate a life beautifully lived.
Private inurnment for immediate family will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, Illinois, where Cynthia will be laid to rest near her beloved parents.
