A Life Rooted in Faith, Styled with Grace, and Lived with Purpose.

With love, gratitude, and deep reverence, we celebrate the life and legacy of Arey Drummond-Taylor, a woman whose unwavering faith, strength, style, and sense of purpose inspired all who knew her. Arey transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by her Pastor and daughters, on Friday, March 13, 2026.

Born on August 22, 1944, to Revis Drummond, Sr. and Idella Drummond in Tunica County, Mississippi, Arey was raised in a strong, faith-filled family that shaped her lifelong devotion to God, family, and community. She attended Rosa Fort High School, where her resilience and determination began to take root and flourish.

Arey began working at the age of 14, helping to care for her mother and siblings. Through her tireless efforts and selfless sacrifices, she not only provided for her family, but also laid the foundation for a legacy grounded in opportunity, growth, and strong character. She was always striving to become better and to uplift those around her - leading by example and instilling values that will live on for generations.

In 1981, Arey made a bold and courageous move to Chicago, Illinois. Guided by her faith and determination, she embraced new opportunities and worked diligently to establish a foundation not only for herself but for generations to come. With intention and pride, she planted the Drummond name in the city she came to call home.

A gifted leather and suede seamstress, Arey’s hands were as skilled as her heart was generous. Industrious and resourceful, she was deeply committed to providing for her family, always finding a way forward with dignity and grace, and with an unshakable belief in the Lord.

Arey was a woman of deep faith and conviction, a true lover of the Scriptures, and a vessel for God’s love. She often declared, “As long as I have breath in my lungs, I will serve the Lord!” and she lived those words every day. Throughout her life, she became a spiritual foundation for her siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of faith, perseverance, and love.

Beyond her strength and faith, Arey was vibrant, warm, and full of personality. She delighted in telling engaging stories and making others laugh, always with her signature wit and a loving spirit. She made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. And let it be known - Arey was the best-dressed woman on this side of the Mississippi River. Whether entering church or stepping out into the world, she carried herself with elegance, confidence, and undeniable style.

Arey was preceded in death by her parents, Revis Drummond, Sr., and Idella Drummond; her sister, Clarestine Titus; her niece, Tammy Titus; her granddaughter, Ariana Robinson; and her grandsons, Donterrius Drummond and Kevis Drummond.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved siblings: Romella Leggette, Revis Drummond, Jr. (Katherine), Viola Harper (Frank), Larry Mackie, Dianne Johnson, and Johnny Drummond (Earline).

Arey is also survived by her loving children: Carl Drummond, Willie Drummond, Olivia Drummond-Howard (Otis), LaTasha Lampkin (Wesley), Kenyatta Jamison (MarShawn), and Adana Robinson-Cross (Shatara), along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever carry her love, lessons, and legacy in their hearts.

Arey Drummond-Taylor was more than a matriarch - she was a guiding light, a covering, a prayer warrior, and a woman who loved deeply and lived fully. Her legacy will shine on through every life she touched.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV):5 Trust in the LORD with all your heartand lean not on your own understanding;6 in all your ways submit to him,and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 31:25-30 (NIV):She is clothed with strength and dignity;she can laugh at the days to come.26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.27 She watches over the affairs of her householdand does not eat the bread of idleness.28 Her children arise and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her:29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
